With 2020 turning out the way it did, I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t remember the events of 2019. Here are a few events to help jog your memory. Old Town Road was number one on the charts; we were introduced to Baby Yoda, Avengers: End Game was a box office hit, and oh! we could have gone outside without a mask. In 2019, Popeye’s also released their Chicken Sandwich, which took the internet by storm and sparked the “Fast Food Chicken Wars.” As the Fast Food Chicken Wars heats up in 2021, Taco Bell is rumored to “interrupt” the status quo.
The rumors stemmed from a statement by Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s Global Chief Food Innovation Officer, who said in an interview, “I think a lot of players out there are doing a great job, but what I will say is that we will interrupt that with what we’re going to do on chicken.” while no details were given, this left fans speculating and anticipating something big from Taco Bell.
Many fans speculate that Taco Bell would bring back its Chicken Tenders, which they tested in November 2019 in Dayton, Ohio, and Houston, Texas. Some are assuming that it may be the return of Taco Bell’s “Naked Chicken Chalupa” – a chalupa that uses fried chicken as its shell, while others are saying it may be something new entirely. Whatever this new menu item is, we know that it is something big and will cover it.
Other prominent players in the Fast Food Chicken Wars are also heating things up. KFC has announced what it is calling “Best Chicken Sandwich Ever,” and Chick-Fil-A has announced its new Grilled Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich.
