Five Guys is a fast-food restaurant specializing in high-quality hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and hot dogs. Five Guys prices are usually higher than what you would pay at a normal fast food restaurant. This is in part due to their beef being 100% fresh with no fillers or preservatives.

When you purchase a hamburger or cheeseburger at Five Guys, you have the option of choosing any toppings you want for no extra charge. The topping choices include mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeño peppers, green peppers, A.1. Steak sauce, Bar-B-Q sauce, and hot sauce.

Five Guys was founded in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell. Jerry Murrell and their four sons are the original “Five Guys”. Today, there are over 1,000 restaurant locations across the United States and Canada. In addition, Five Guys is currently the fastest-growing fast-food company in the United States.

The first time you buy a burger from Five Guys, you might find it to be very expensive. However, when you factor in the quality, taste, size, and freshness, it is actually a reasonable price. However, Five Guys prices are still more expensive than your average burger and fries fast-food restaurants.

Five Guys FAQ

Five Guys FAQ

What time do Five Guys open?

Five Guys opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Sunday. At this time, the restaurant opens for people wanting to dine-in as well as for those who want to call ahead for pickup. Oftentimes, if you order your meal online from Five Guys, you can do so before opening hours to ensure that your order is ready by the time the store opens at 11 a.m.

What time do Five Guys close?

Five Guys closes at 10 p.m. However, the hours of operation are at the discretion of each franchise owner, so it is possible to find a Five Guys that close before or after 10 p.m., although the time will typically not vary more than an hour. If you order online or call ahead, pick-up hours usually end at the same time the restaurant closes.

What year was Five Guys founded?

Five Guys was founded in 1986 when the parents of four ambitious young men gave them the ultimate choice: to get a college degree or to start their own business. Fortunately for the rest of the world, the Murrell brothers decided on the latter and committed to helping their parents run the family business.

Where was the first Five Guys opened?

The first Five Guys opened in Arlington, Virginia, at the Westmont Shopping Center. Many of the franchises that have opened since are also in shopping centers and strip malls near residential areas. And while the first Five Guys is no longer open, the fast food chain’s headquarters is still in Virginia in Lorton.

Who owns Five Guys?

Five Guys is owned by Five Guys Holdings, Inc, which was founded in 2007. Five Guys Holdings is the parent organization that owns several other companies within the restaurant’s empire, such as:

  • Five Guys Enterprises (the official name for Five Guys Burgers and Fries)
  • Five Guys Operations, and Five Guys Foods UK Limited

How many Five Guys restaurants are there?

There are currently nearly 1,500 Five Guys restaurants in the world. The fast-food chain has plans to expand to more than 3,000 total locations in the coming years, so be on the look-out for the opening of a Five Guys near you!

Who started Five Guys?

Five Guys was started by husband and wife Jerry and Janie Murrell, with the help of their sons. Growing the Five Guys franchise has been a family endeavor: each of the boys decided to pursue the family business over getting a college degree, and they are all still an active part of the organization to this day.

How did Five Guys get its name?

Five Guys got its name from the five men in the Murrell family Jerry, Jim, Matt, Chad, Ben, and Murrell. Interestingly enough, the Murrell couple ended up conceiving a fifth son, Tyler, after opening the fast-food restaurant. Now, the brothers are considered to be the “Five Guys” the restaurant is named after.

    1. learn how to spell lunch and five guys can be alot of money but good food

      1. Learn how to capitalize and punctuate your sentence correctly and Five Guys can be a lot of money, not alot.

        1. Really? I hope you are kid messing around because if you’re not than read your comment again, it’s obvious why you don’t have a job high paying enough to purchase a fast food cheese burger (an excellent one). Learn how to speak English, learn how to spell and apply for a higher paying job.

          1. Probably an NBA professional basketball player or NFL player who went through college and can’t speak plain English or spell. Many public school systems and colleges are not doing their jobs.

          2. I’d advise you to stop being abusive. With that attitude, I’m surprised you have “a job high paying enough to purchase a fast food cheese burger”

          3. mike emerson says:

Wait a minute Bud, check your own spelling before condemning others. Than is supposed to be Then!

          4. Steve Sloan says:

Lots of rude comments on this page. So what if the person cannot spell very well. Is it your business?

          5. Lol, do you work for the overpriced grease burger?

          6. john paulinac says:

tell em Emma……and tell all the foreign countries to get the “h” out of here so our
we can understand them when we are trying to do business for our America based companies

        2. Wow knocking someone because they are not educated. You’re the dumb ass for spending $25 for a burger and fries. STFU.

          1. A burger and fries there is No where near $25 get the facts straight..

          2. Tyrell Williams says:

You’re right, my wife paid $29.76 for 2 little cheeseburgers and 2 regular fries outrageous. Never again

      2. @FISHLIPS
Learn how to use punctuation and capitalize the first word of your sentences, before being quick to judge others! You have awful run on sentences.

@ZULU I’m sorry to hear that about the overpriced menu at Five Guys. As a single person who loves quality food, it’s considered pricey in my opinion. Email me directly. I would like for you and your family to experience a meal at Five Guys.

      3. fldksdlksa dsffa says:

I can eat at a sit down place for the same amount of money

    2. Linda flynt says:

Learn to SPELL ALOT….. ITS A LOT…. No such word as ALOT…. Never been to five guys because of the expense but will try to soon as a walk in not a carry out….

    3. Yeah, we quit eating here too. $25 + tax for two burgers and a medium fry is ridiculous.

    4. I was in one of their stores today. It was 11.19 for a cheeseburger and 8.69 for a single patty little cheeseburger. One small fry added and my order, no drinks, and the total was over 27.00. This was in the Detroit area, not Chicago or NY.
This is now out of my budget, unfortunately.

    5. Agree, extremely overpriced!

    6. Totally agree!!! Idk where they are getting 8.99. Here in Illinois just outside of Chicago, it is around $12.84 FOR JUST the burger before TAX… Can’t go THERE anymore. Would rather take the family to an olive garden or red lobster for that kind of money. NUTZ

    7. Obviously you haven’t eaten at McDonald’s, Wendy’s or Chic Filet lately…and
Five Guys hamburgers are a lot better.

  2. Yes, prices may be a little higher than SOME fast food, BUT look what you are getting. Fresh patties and those WONDERFUL boardwalk fries. I lived in VA to eat at the first Five Guys, and WOW what a wonderful experience. I am so glad to see that Five Guys has expanded so that everyone can experience these GREAT foods. THE EXPERIENCE is worth it. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK FIVE GUYS!!!!!!!

  3. Nathan Phillips says:

My God what a bunch of asses! This website is for you to comment on food…and there you go dissing someone about their usage of the English language. Friggin’ slobs.

Now that being said, the reason I love Five Guys is that at my city’s Five Guys, they are so courteous; and when you leave the store they will put a few napkins on the top of your order and throw hot fries on top just for you to eat on the way home! Now THAT is cool! And I certainly don’t mind paying a bit more for good food and great service. Rock on, Five Dudes!

    1. Totally Agree, contemplating first time visit, decided to read “Food Reviews”.. Some people just have to complain about something! lol

    2. u must have a hell of a good paying job to be able to spend that kind of money on a hamburger and fries

  4. First and last time I ate here, bit into a piece of bone shard? in my cheeseburger, lost my appetite and never ate here again.

  5. It is only ground beef people it does not matter if it comes from Burger King or Five Guys ground meat is ground meat it is too expensive.

  6. I guess people found some bad things to say about this place. Not surprising. Well, just a few words to say. Some say it’s pretty overpriced, and you’re right, it’s more expensive than your average fast food restaurant. But that’s becuase it’s not your average fast food restaurant. They make the food right in front of you, yelling the orders to their coworkers and chefs(you’ll know when you get in), and it’s obvious they have passion in it. I’m burger enthusiast and the burgers here are amazing. The meat is cooked really well. If you like fries…my god. Always get the small. They give you A LOT of fries lol. You know AMC’s large popcorn bucket? Yeah, that’s the small. It’s no Checkers seasoned fries, but it gets the job done. The burger and the fries themselves cost like $13. The amount of food they give you and the quality your getting is really worth it.

This is not a place where you go get some reward for dieting a month or two, let’s make that clear now. This one place will destroy years of hard work. But if you want good fries, good burgers, or some good in general, with the only intent in your head being “man, I want some REAL food”, this is a high quality country fast food restaurant that will not disappoint.

    1. Oh please, they are extremely overpriced and average on taste!

  7. scooby doo says:

five guys is one of the best places to eat i dont care what u say the food is great and so are the poeple

  8. scooby doo says:

five guys is one of the best places to eat

  9. I thought the food is over priced. I would rather shove a pencil in my eye then pay 9 dollars for a mediocre burger and a brown sack of greasy fries. I will not per take again and may god have mercy on your soul.

    1. I am with you….you can eat a wonderful buffet for the same price and get much more quality food for your money.

  10. I love there Burgers they are a little expensive but the amount of food you get is well worth the money

  11. This is all I have to say, “Oh, my goodness! Oh, my damn! Damn, damn, damn!”

Gotta love “Schmoyho”, huh? Ha, ha!

  12. Peggy Booth says:

we need a five guys restaurant in our location frostburg md we have Frostburg State Univ. and Allegany Collage of Md so there would be plenty of bussines here in Frostburg or Lavale Md great place to eat

  13. Chris Zehnal says:

Why does something with chese have to be 70 more cent but other than that food was good

  14. I going to this place like fr I heard it was delish and that the ” five guys” are hott

  15. Kaiden Johnson says:

Five Guys is the worst! They gave me a botched up grilled cheese sandwich and it cost to much. I am never going again.

  16. I want to try this place but they have no chili or slaw for their hot dogs and hamburgers. Where are these people from ? I can’t imagine a hot dog without chili and slaw. I may still give it a try one time.

  17. Prices are totally RIDICULOUS!!!! Costs as much as a steak. No where near as good and they are so slow

    1. Steak Lover 2001 says:

First off, “Sam”, there’s never a situation in the English language where four exclamation points are appropriate. Second of all, if you’re so concerned about the steak economy, how about you buy a cow, lazy bum!!!!

  18. I asked them to hold the salt on the fries, and although they were turning out new batches of fries one right after the other, I was told that they couldn’t do that. So much for Five Guys. On the expensive side for what you get. Like the peanuts, wonder what that is all about??

  19. Xx_SANIC_Xx says:

Five guys is love five guys is life

  20. neemer smith says:

burgers are pretty good. the rest of the stuff is overpriced. 5$ for large fries? 2.29 for a regular drink? could get the same at mcdonals for 2$ and 3$. If i go again I would only order a burger. 15$ for fast food for one person is a bit on the expensive side.

    1. Agreed and I only have them when I get into the area. Which isn’t often.

  21. I would have commented earlier but I couldn’t do the security math problem! Wtf, why make me do math to post here, like 10×5 how the he’ll am I supposed to know. Couldn’t find a calculator so I called my mom. Anyway, burgers are good, fries are great.

    1. Chris Longbottom says:

Maybe you should of learned something in school, and maybe just maybe, if your to dumb to know what 10×5 is your opinion on anything doesnt matter please keep from breeding and do the universe a favor.

      1. You are so mean (but right)

  22. I disagree about the price compared to McDonald’s because these are SO MUCH BETTER than McDonald’s.
They taste and look like a real hamburger. The other thing is the portions for the fries are huge! Totally unnecessary to order large fries or large burger for that matter. I always get the “little” burger and there’s nothing little about it. Plus you can get ten toppings if you want and it’s not extra. Yum!

  23. Really good! Really expensive. 🙁

    1. Thank you for pointing out these awful people. It’s such a shame they exist. May the universe provide abundance to you throughout your journey.

  24. Chris Longbottom says:

The people that say its more expensive than McDonalds please go eat some more paint chips, the size of there fries are 2 to 3 times bigger than McDonald’s and are way better quality. To the people that say its to expensive please tell me how? Yes you can make some burgers at home cheaper but its cheaper for me and my old lady to go to five guys than Wendy’s or nasty McDonald’s..

  25. Very good food, fries are amazing and hamburger are delicious, but I think they need to have bigger buns so they can hold eveything together , today it was difficult to eat because my buns fell apart

  26. Please stop smooshing the juices out of the burger qfter the flip. Here’s how to do it. Meat ball on grill, in the first sseconds, smoosh onto the flat top. Let cook for as long as necessary, most of the cooking should be done on the first side. Flip…add spices…..then, leave it ALONE! When cooked through, pull. Dress. Enjoy.

  27. Christina says:

The food was very good. But for two people it cost $33. It wasn’t THAT good. I could have gotten a burger at a sit down restaurant for half the price. Won’t go back.

  28. Food is delicious & WORTH the extra price. Comparing Five Guys to McDonalds or another fast food place is like comparing apples to shoe strings! One little burger & a small fry should be plenty enough for one adult, even in this “American’s are major over eaters” day & age. Two little burgers & a regular fry is should be plenty for two adults – a regular fry is literally half a paper BAG full (not the little serving cups from other joints). One large fry & little burger for each should be plenty to feed up to a family of 3 or 4. The quality is superior to typical fast food places (McDonalds, Hardees, etc.) and you can choose from just about any topping you can imagine for no additional cost. The beef is real & the fries are cut fresh that day, not frozen. Yes you’re going to spend more than going to McDonalds but you get what you pay for. If you’re that tight or that cheap then I’m sure there’s a dollar menu for just down the road, just don’t expect it to taste anything like Five Guys.

    1. for you* just down the road (got ahead of myself there lol)

  29. Agular620 says:

I did not see the prices for the shakes? And that is the only thing that I’ve been looking for online is the dang prices for the shakes!!! Ahhh the agony lolol

  30. they’re the greatist. I don’t care what the cost.

  31. Ima Foodie says:

The soda pop machine has a good selection, drinks you won’t find anyplace else. The fries are good just bring a gallon of water. The fries are extremely salty, like dipping fresh fried fries in salt. Didn’t try the sandwiches or burgers, I paid $6 for regular size extra salty fries, I am not willing to risk getting diabetes by eating a possible super exquisite juicy and oily extra salty burger. One and done. Scottsdale.

  32. Kevin Gonners says:

Hey be nice in the Five Guys comments section. Let Fast Food Menu Prices be the place where people talk in peace.

  33. Chris Davids says:

You get what you pay for…… Want cheap burgers — of course there are other places to go to. Want good-quality meat with a variety of different AND tasty toppings such as gilled onions or mushrooms, A1 or other sauces other than same-old same-old ketchup, etc (although they also DO offer them), then feel free to go elsewhere. And if you like peanuts — you are in 7th heaven there — unlimited peanutes to munch on while you wait for your fresh-made burger to appear. And yes — FRESH MADE — not pulled from stack of wrapped & pre-made burgers.
