Big Mac Price and Nutrition

The Big Mac is a burger from McDonalds that was first introduced in 1967. It is one of the most popular burgers from McDonalds as well as in the fast food industry as a whole. In this article we will discuss the Big Mac price and nutrition.

The Big Mac burger consists of two 1.6 oz. 100% all-beef patties, American cheese, thousand island-like signature sauce, iceberg lettuce, pickles, and onions. It is all served in a unique three-part sesame seed bun.

About The Big Mac

Big Mac priceJim Delligatti, who was one of the early McDonald’s franchise owners in the Pittsburgh area, invented the Big Mac. This famous burger wasn’t originally called the Big Mac; instead it went through two names – the Aristocrat and the Blue Ribbon Burger. Both ended up being very unsuccessful.

The third and final name, the Big Mac, was crafted by Esther Glickstein Rose. She was 21-year-old at the time and worked as an Advertising Secretary at the McDonalds corporate headquarters in Oak Brook, IL.

When it was released in 1967 in McDonald’s restaurants in Pennsylvania, it was selling for a price of 45 cents. It ended up being so popular that McDonald’s added it to their national menus one year after, in 1968.

Now that we know a bit of history about the Big Mac, let’s take a look at its price and nutrition.

Big Mac Price

As written above, when it was originally released, the Big Mac was only 45 cents! Unfortunately, you are unlikely to find that price at any McDonalds restaurant today.

Today, the Big Mac cost is slightly more than Burger King’s signature Whopper burger. Although the prices vary depending on where you are located, the average Big Mac is about $3.99 for the burger and $5.69 for the meal, which comes with medium French fries, and a medium soft drink.

You might think that $3.99 is high for a fast food burger, but it’s actually a pretty good deal. It has a lot of flavor and you’d be surprised by the size of it. When you consider the fact that it has 2 all-beef patties, various veggies, and cheese, the price starts looking real good.

Big Mac Nutrition

Now that we know how much the Big Mac costs, what about its nutritional content? The Big Mac has 550 calories, which is not too bad for a fast food burger. It is about 80 calories lower than the Burger King’s Whopper.

Below is the full nutritional table for the Big Mac burger.

Calories 550
Protein 25 g
Fat 29 g
Carbs 46 g
Sodium 970 mg
Calories from Fat 260
Saturated Fat 10 g
Trans Fat 1 g
Cholesterol 75 mg
Dietary Fiber 3 g
Sugars 9 g
Vitamin A 230 IU
Calcium 270 mg
Iron 4.5 mg
Vitamin C 1 mg

As shown above, at only 550 calories, the Big Mac is not a bad meal if it’s the only thing in your meal. If you start adding fries and a drink, it could get a bit too fattening, so try to avoid any extras.

If you feel like you absolutely need a side, we would recommend McDonalds Apple Slices, which are on the McDonalds dollar menu.

If you are not a fan of the Big Mac sauce and think you can go without it, you’ll save about 90 calories and your Big Mac will only be 460 calories. If you remove the cheese, you’ll save an additional 50 calories. But we all know that will start affecting the famous Big Mac taste.

In general, you should be fine with a regular Big Mac as long as you don’t get any extra sides or drinks.

From reading this article, you know that the Big Mac is a legendary burger from McDonalds that is quite an affordable choice, yet also very filling. At 550 calories, the Big Mac is a better option than comparable burgers from other fast food restaurants.

While you won’t be able to get the Big Mac for 45 cents as it was originally selling, you should be able to find one for around $3.99. Depending on your location, you might be paying up to a dollar more or less.

Also, be on the lookout for Big Mac specials. McDonalds routinely runs specials where you buy one Big Mac and get a second one for a penny. Of course we wouldn’t recommend consuming two Big Macs in one setting though.
