Best Bang for the Buck: Fast Food Fried Chicken

With the prices of everything going up all the time, that obviously affects our entertainment and fast food budget. Nowadays, if you have 7 bucks in your pocket you’re unlikely to get in a movie theater to watch your favorite blockbuster, as even by 2013 the average price of a movie ticket was already $8.38.

But if you’re jonesing for juicy fried chicken, your 7 bucks can really go a long way. This is especially true when you visit these fried chicken fast food joints:

The Kentucky Fried Chicken menu prices offer some of the best value for money deals you can get, as you can get full meals with chicken, a side dish, and a beverage for a mere $5. While prices for various items depend greatly on the location of your KFC restaurant, the $5 Fill Ups from KFC represent a truly stupendous opportunity—and you can even eat while pondering what to do with your extra two bucks!

If its fried chicken you want, your $5 Fill Up options include getting an 8-ounce chicken breast, 2 pieces of fried chicken (drumstick and thigh), or 3 juicy chicken tenders. Each option is accompanied by larger mashed potatoes, a chocolate chip cookie, a biscuit, and a medium drink.

For a bit more money at $5.49, you can opt for the Nashville Hot Chicken variety. You have the same chicken options as in the $5 Fill Ups, but you get the coleslaw and the biscuit. These don’t come with a drink, though, and the remaining $1.51 isn’t quite enough for a medium drink which usually costs $1.69.

However, there’s the Chicken Tenders Combo, with 3 pieces, an individual side dish, and a medium drink for less than $6. And kids have the Kid’s Meal option, with a choice of a drumstick, a Chicken Little, a Chicken Tender, or Popcorn Nuggets, along with an Individual side and a small drink. This option is just for less than $4.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

If you haven’t tried this place yet, that’s not surprising since they’ve only got about 1,600 locations in the US and just over 2,000 locations worldwide. And don’t worry about the lack of an apostrophe in the name. That’s intentional, and supposedly the joke is that when Popeyes first started out they couldn’t afford to pay for the apostrophe.

In any case, that kind of penny-pinching attitude is also evident in their prices, as your $7 is enough to leave you really satisfied when you’re looking for a good meal. Your best bet here is to pick the 3-Piece Bonafide Combo, which also gets you a drink, a hot and buttery biscuit, plus a Signature Side Dish. You can get the mild or the spicy chicken, take your pick.

You have lots of options when picking a side dish, as you can choose among the following: cole slaw, Cajun fries, mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, green beans, more biscuits, Cajun rice, corn on the cob, mac and cheese, jambalaya, and onion rings.

When your chicken is marinated for at least 12 hours and then hand-battered and hand-breaded, you can bet you’re in for a treat! Popeyes fare proves without a doubt that price is no indication of quality, as the scrumptious chicken here truly deserves your attention.

Your 7 bucks gets you a very long list of combo options when you’re here in Chick-Fil-A. Take a look at the combo possibilities that cost less than $7: chicken sandwich, chicken deluxe sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich, spicy chicken deluxe, 8-pieces of grilled Chick-Fil-A Nuggets, 3 pieces of Chick-n-Strips, grilled chicken sandwich, and chicken salad sandwich.

That long list can make anyone hungry just contemplating the wide variety of options available for less than $7, as the priciest combo on the list is the Chicken Salad Sandwich Combo at $6.79.

Each of the combo options come with a medium soft drink or tea, along with a medium classic side. For your side options, you can choose between waffle potato fries and baked potato with butter.

That’s a lot of combo options, and hopefully you have one of the 1763 Chick-Fil-A locations near you. That means you won’t have to spend money for transport when you get your fried chicken.

So as you can see, all is well with your budget when you’re cruising for fried chicken. Skip the movie and go out to eat instead. These places will treat you and your budget right.
