Pizza Hut Dough Recipe

Pizza Hut crust is the foundation of a delicious pizza. I’ll admit that I’ve tried making my own pizza dough so that my kids can make pizzas at home, but I always end up buying pre-made crusts because it seems that I can never get the dough right. But with some searching and experimenting, it can be done. Finally, there’s a simple Pizza Hut Dough Recipe with minimal steps and just a few ingredients that make the perfect Pizza Hut crust.

The good thing about this recipe is that it can be made by kneading the dough by hand, with a food processor, or with a mixer and a dough hook. Personally, I’d recommend kneading by hand or the dough hook. The original recipe calls for MSG, but I skip this ingredient so that it’s healthier, and the dough still turns out delicious.

You will want to be sure to let the dough rest for about 45 minutes before rolling it out into crust, and keep in mind that this recipe contains instructions for preparing the dough, not for preparing the entire Pizza Hut pizza.

Equipment

  • Food processor or dough hook (or it can be done by hand)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cup water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp cornmeal
  • 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 174 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 3/8 tsp msg
  • 1 1/2 tsp dry yeast (add 174 tsp more for breadier dough)

Instructions

If Using a Food Processor

  • Place the water, sugar, salt, and olive oil in the bowl of the food processor and pulse to dissolve the sugar and salt. Add yeast, bread flour, all-purpose flour, and all of the other dry ingredients. Process until a soft ball forms. Remove the dough from the machine and allow it to rest covered with a tea towel for about 45 minutes.

If Using a Dough Hook and Mixer

  • Place the water, sugar, salt, and olive oil in the bowl of the mixer and dissolve the sugar and salt. Stir in the yeast, bread flour, all-purpose flour, and all of the other dry ingredients. Knead with the dough hook to form a soft, but not-too sticky dough (about 8 minutes). Remove the dough from the machine and allow it to rest covered with a tea towel for about 45 minutes.

If Preparing by Hand

  • Place the water, sugar, salt, and olive oil in a bowl and dissolve the sugar and salt. Stir in the yeast, all-purpose flour, and all of the other dry ingredients. Knead to form a soft, but not-too sticky dough (about 8-l0 minutes). Allow the dough to rest, covered with a tea towel for about 45 minutes.

Notes

  • It may take longer than 10 minutes to knead the dough, especially if you're doing it by hand. The important thing to remember is that the semi-sticky consistency of the dough is what you're aiming for.

Since you’re trying your hand at preparing dough, why not try to prepare Pizza Hut’s Breadsticks as well? It’s the perfect way to compliment your pizza.
