It may feel like there’s little to celebrate this year, but I’ve got something may change your mind. Forget about pumpkin spice lattes and peppermint mochas – I’m talking about the Starbucks Cake Batter Frappuccino. The frozen beverage was originally released on the menu as a limited time offer, but was discontinued back in 2015. If you’ve never heard of this sweet treat, that’s probably why, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your hands on one at your local coffee. The Cake Batter Frappuccino still has a home at Starbucks, it’s just on the Secret Menu instead!
However, there’s nothing really secret about it because we’ve got all the details to share with you – what it tastes like, what the ingredients are, and how to make one at home. Let’s get to it.
How to order the Starbucks Cake Batter Frappuccino

The good news is, you can order pretty much anything you want off the Starbucks menu, whether it’s an official menu item, a secret menu item, or some random concoction you came up with in your dreams. When it comes to the Cake Batter Frappuccino, you can go ahead and try to order it by name since it was already on the menu at one point. However, some baristas may not know what goes into it, so the safest option will be for you to order the following:
- Vanilla Bean Creme Frappuccino
- Add Hazelnut Syrup
- 1 pump tall
- 1.5 pumps grande
- 2 pumps venti
- Optional: Starbucks Cake Pop
How much does it cost?
Even though this item isn’t on the regular menu, it’s still priced the same way all Starbucks drinks are – the base drink (Vanilla Bean Frappuccino) plus any syrups or sauces (hazelnut) plus any other additions you make (cake pop). Prices may vary slightly by location, but your Cake Batter Frapp should end up being around:
- Tall – $4.81
- Grande – $5.35
- Venti – $5.67
Note, the above prices to not account for the addition of a cake pop. Starbucks Birthday Cake pops are $2.25 each, so if you add one to your frapp, the price will be slightly higher.
Starbucks Birthday Cake Frappuccino Recipe
If you’d like to try out a DIY version of the secret menu item, it’s surprisingly easy to whip up if you have a few main ingredients. All frappuccinos are made with a base of ice and milk – some have ice cream, some have matcha, and some have coffee flavor in them. And of course, the beverages are finished off with a signature flavor or syrup, like mocha, vanilla, or hazelnut and toppings like whipped cream. To make the Birthday Cake Frapp at home, you’ll need:
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons hazelnut syrup
Simply add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
