There is a ray of sunshine in this chaotic year. McDonald’s announced the return of its famous McRib sandwich across the U.S starting December 2nd. This is the first time since 2012 the McRib will be available to fans across the country.
So, what exactly is the McRib? The McRib sandwich features seasoned boneless pork patty, shaped like a rack of ribs, and dipped in a tangy barbecue sauce. It’s topped with crushed onions and tart pickles on the bun. Prices vary by location.
The McRib has been a favorite among McDonald’s fans ever since it debuted back in 1982. However, it has only been available for a limited time and often only at select locations. The McRib sandwich has been such a hit with fans that it made our list of The Four Best Limited Menu Items of All Time.
In a 2009 interview with Maxim magazine, Rene Arend, McDonald’s first executive chef and inventor or the McRib, said that he got inspiration from pulled pork sandwiches he ate in Charleston, South Carolina. Rene also invented the McNugget.
In previous years, the limited availability of the McRib at only selected locations ignited excitement amongst fans, ultimately leading to long lines at the restaurants. In the era of social distancing, McDonald’s decision to make the McRib available at all of its 14,000 locations across the U.S makes it easier for fans to pick up this treat and avoid the hassle. If you are a fan, or perhaps never tried the McRib, this is your opportunity to pick one up by simply visiting a McDonald’s closest to you.
