City Barbeque is a fast-casual restaurant chain that specializes in competition-level barbeque. We mean that literally–the founder was originally part of a competition BBQ team, and the restaurant has more than 100 certified BBQ judges to ensure the quality of the food. In fact, City Barbeque has won several awards over the years, from being named as a top barbeque restaurant in the country to receiving praise as a fast-casual business. 

 

From its original store in Columbus, Ohio, it now has more than 50 stores across several states. If you’re in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, or Wisconsin, you might be within driving distance from a City Barbeque store. Dine-in remains the most popular way of enjoying a meal at City Barbeque, but you can also order for catering, delivery, or pick-up. They’re usually open from 11 AM up to 9 PM, just in time for lunch or dinner. 

 

City Barbeque donates to charities regularly. Restaurants almost always end up with some leftover food after closing time–City Barbeque gives theirs to Food Rescue, which distributes fresh food to community meal sites, food pantries, and more. They also run a fundraising program where they give back 20% of their sales to organizations like the FFA and Mission 22.

City Barbeque Menu Overview

You probably wouldn’t want to eat right before going to City Barbeque because their servings are hearty and filling. Smoked meat is the focus of their menu, ranging from pork and beef to chicken and turkey, but they offer plenty of other menu items. They have several selections for sandwiches and sides, including pulled pork sandwiches, green beans with bacon, and corn pudding. Salads and desserts are available too.

Competition-Level BBQ

They take their BBQ seriously here! Aside from having a roster of judges behind the scenes, two of their BBQ menu items have won individual awards. Their Beef Brisket was the Grand Champion at an international BBQ competition, while their smoked turkey breast was declared by the National Turkey Federation as the best in America. In case you’re looking to try different kinds of meat from their menu, they have sampler platters where you can dive into all their best offerings–brisket, pulled pork, turkey, and ribs–all at once.  

 

Unique Recipes 

City Barbeque came up with their own recipes for every menu item, and part of what makes their food tasty is they make nearly everything from scratch. All of their BBQs are smoked at the restaurant itself–you can even see the pitmaster working on it! Each BBQ is painstakingly smoked for several hours with wood at precise temperatures. Their sauces are unique too, and they have a sauce station at each branch where you can choose which sauces for your meat.

 

Gluten-Free Options

This might be less expected at a BBQ restaurant, but City Barbeque has many gluten-free menu items, such as their Pulled, Chicken, and Briskets. You won’t miss out on their specialties even with a gluten-free diet. In addition, there are gluten-free sides too: Vinegar Slaw, Green Beans with Bacon, and Smashed Potatoes, to name a few. They offer low-carb, low-calorie, and high-protein options.
