For years we have been fascinated with the British Royal Family. Partly, this is because we know very little about them. While there are documentaries and shows out there, such as Netflix’s “The Crown,” we seldom hear from the Royal Family themselves. This holiday season, the Royal Family has given us a sneak peek into their kitchen and shared the recipe for their Traditional Boozy Christmas Pudding. Now we can give our taste buds the royal treatment this holiday season.

In a tweet dated November 22nd, the Royal Family stated via their Twitter account, “Today is #StirupSunday: traditionally the day when home cooks ‘stir up’ their Christmas pudding mixture. This year, chefs in the Royal kitchens have shared their recipe for a traditional Christmas pudding. We hope that some of you enjoy making it in your own homes.” A one-minute time-lapse video showing the steps involved also accompanied the tweet.

Before you can enjoy your very own Royal desert, there are a few things you need to pick up. The ingredients listed below is enough to make two 1KG puddings:

  • 250g raisins
  • 250g currants
  • 185g sultanas
  • 150g mixed peel
  • 250g suet or vegetarian suet
  • 250g breadcrumbs
  • 90g flour
  • 12g mixed spice
  • Two whole eggs
  • 180g demerara sugar
  • 275ml beer
  • 40ml dark rum
  • 40ml brandy

In the accompanying time-lapse video, the dry ingredients are first thoroughly mixed in a large mixing bowl. Then the eggs and other liquid ingredients are then added in. The mixture is then poured into a greased bowl, then covered with parchment paper. The bowls are then covered with foil and steamed in a large pot for six hours. Once the Christmas Pudding is cooled, wrap securely and place in a cool, dry, and dark place until Christmas.

Keep in mind that this is a Christmas Pudding is a bit boozy, so you may want to keep this one away from the kids.
